Who do you think you are?
4th grade, El Rincon Elementary.
Mornings started with all students lining up on the blacktop by class number, all of the classes would get roll called then go in.
One fine morning, this one kid wouldn't get in line and kept running around, joking, etc.
His name was Sam Krause.
His teacher came out and was not able to get him to stay put for some time, by the time she did, she was pretty pissed.
Now face to face, she yelled loudly at him "Who do you think you are?". All was quiet and all eyes on the scene.
With righteous indignation I had never seen before, he faced her down and loudly replied "I'M SAM KRAUSE"
The entire school erupted in laughter for the next five minutes. Teachers were even laughing.
From then on, I greeted him with 'Who do you think you are'. Other people did too, but no one held it out for as long as I did.
I saw him at some store at around age 25 and repeated the greeting, in the same tone and inflection used by the teacher 15+ years earlier.
He replied "yeah, real mature Ricky". We didn't do much catching up.
*bonus: a quote to go along with the story:
"If it is your duty to croak like the toad, then go ahead! And with all your might! Make them hear you!"~ Louis-Ferdinand Celine
(note: I had to include Sam's name or this story would not really work, normally I would avoid that, forgive me Sam)
